Looking for office software? Every little helps...
Tesco announced recently that they are moving into the office software market in a move targeted at reducing the dominance of Microsoft. The UK's largest supermarket will offer a range of packages including word processing, spreadsheets, security and photo editing. With each application priced around the £20 mark this certainly seems cheap compared to Microsoft.
But if you are in the market for a new software package, first consider looking into one of the free packages available online.
Open Office offers a range of applications including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation management. The package is developed on a voluntary basis by an international community of software developers. It is free to download, use and upgrade. Versions are available for both PC and Apple Macintosh and the product has won a number of industry awards.
Alternatively, search engine leader Google has recently launched a free to use online spreadsheet and word processing service. The software resides on Google's central servers. Documents created can either be stored online or downloaded to your computer.
To find out more about these packages in this article and check out the Open Office and Google web-sites. After all, every little helps. Isn't that right, Tesco?
