Beware Automated Insurance Renewals

Shopping around for motor and home insurance at renewal time can be a great way of saving money. Even if you are happy with your current provider, having a cheaper quote from a competitor can help convince them to offer you a better premium.

But if you're not careful you could find that escaping bad deals is not as easy as you had thought. Some insurance companies have clauses in their Terms and Conditions that allow them to automatically renew your insurance policy unless you explicitly tell them not to.

Whats more, TheRateTart's spies tell us that some leading insurers are developing software to help them identify 'sticky' customers (i.e. those who do not shop around at renewal time) and hiking up premiums for these loyal customers! To avoid this and make sure you will always have a great deal, there's just two things you need to do;

  1. Contact your current insurance company and instruct them that they may not automatically renew your policy.
  2. Register with TheRateTart and set up an alert to remind you when it's time to start shopping around for a better deal To us that sounds like a good deal. Better.
