Putting it all together autorating the players
Now that we've gone through the theoretical basis for the auto-rate rules, we're ready to rate players. Poker Tracker's auto-rate feature takes us through this three-step process.
Click on "Utilities""Auto Rate Players" in the top menu bar to begin the auto-rate process
(alternatively, click the eagle icon - in the row of top menu icons).

Step 1- Overall Criteria o Enter the minimum number of hands you require for a player to be rated.
If you wish to limit the hands to a certain time period, fill in the appropriate boxes in the "Dates to use" section of the screen. Otherwise leave the "all time" and "use all hands when rating players" radio buttons selected (we recommend using all hands).

when Determining Number of Hands Played C* Count hands from atl limits played C Count hands played only from selected limits
Clos o o If you wish to eliminate hands from shorthanded games from the auto-rate process, choose a minimum number of players in the "players at table" section of the screen. For full ring game players, we recommend selecting "greater than or equal to" in the first box, and "7" in the second box. Since shorthanded play has far different standards for looseness and aggression, we do not included shorthanded games in our player rating process. For shorthanded players, we recommend choosing "greater than or equal to" for the first box, and "4" for the second box, since the shorthanded game changes significantly when only three players are involved.

when Determining Number of Hands Played
Count hands from atl limits played C Count hands played only from selected limits clos o In the "only use hands from selected limits" selection, choose the limits that you wish to include in the auto-rate process. Remember that shorthanded games have different categories than full ring games, and should not be included in the same auto-rating (see the section below entitled "Different Databases for Different Games"). Likewise, we do not recommend mixing limits that are not "adjacent" (e.g. it's ok to mix $2-4 and $3-6, but not $3-6 and $15-30) because the games are considerably different.
o After you've chosen your desired limits, click on the "Step 2" tab to move on to rule definition.
Step 2 - Rules o For those of you looking to get started quickly, we've provided a quick and easy way to set up your rules. First, download the following auto rate rules file from our server: http://www.pokertrackerguide.com/ebook/ptguide_autorate_rules.txt. Next, click on the "import rules" button and specify the file "ptguide_autorate_rules.txt" that you have downloaded. However, we recommend going through the rules creation process yourself, since it will help you solidify your understanding of the player categories, and will allow you to customize the rules to fit your personal preferences.
o If you're not importing the rules, then you can set up the rules for each individual category by double clicking each icon and entering the data from the table for the corresponding icon from the table below. When you come to the rule description screen, make sure the checkbox for "Include preflop numbers in TOTAL Aggression Factor Calculation" is unchecked.
o After you've finished defining the rules, click on the "Step 3" tab to move on to the rate players.

Double-click on a row to create, edit or view the rules for the selected icon.
When defining rules, use the priority field to define which icons get assigned first in case of overlaping rules. This field is not required however, please read the help file for more details.
For example: If you define a rock as a player with < 10% VPIP and define a tight/aggressive as < 15% VPIP with a PFR > 10%j a player with a VPIP < 10% will always get assigned the rock icon because it is checked first.
If you put a priority of 1 on the tight/aggressive icon and 2 on the rock icon, then the tight/aggressive rules will be checked before the rock rules so that players with VPIP < 10 but a PFR. > 10 are defined as tight/aggressive rather than rocks.
Close
When the auto-rate process has finished, every player in your database who qualifies based on the minimum number of hands specified in step one should have an icon. Your own screen name will also have an auto-generated icon, hopefully "good player". Note that variables like sample size and game conditions greatly affect the desirability of specific icons. For example, we know several players who specialize in loose-passive games, and their win rate as a "Slightly_Loose Aggressive Solid" player is much higher than many players with a "Good Player" icon. Against loose passive players, a wider variety of hands can be played preflop since the implied odds are so high. Again we remind the reader that icons provide a starting point for reading opponents, but solid play incorporates flexibility in reading players based on game conditions.
